Savor The Good Things
Three years ago, when I was still a full-time blogger and housewife, I wrote and published this post on my old blog site. I am sharing this here with y'all now because God reminded me of this message today... and perhaps some of you might need to hear the same message today. I may not know what each of you are going through right now in your journey but I do believe in a God who sees everything, knows everything, and has complete and absolute control over everything. If He led you to this blog post today, it is because He wants to bless you. May you be filled with abundance of joy, hope, courage and love through the words that you will read today!
This post is about a quote I saw on Facebook:
"Everything in life is temporary. So if things are going good, enjoy it because it won’t last forever. And if things are going bad, don’t worry. It can’t last forever either." (Anonymous)
Nice quote, but I don’t fully agree with the second sentence. I don’t think that is the right way of looking at it.
Somehow, with that statement, the image of a child hurrying to stuff a huge slice of cake down his throat because he believes someone will come any moment to take it away from him pops in my head. It might be a funny image, but it’s just not right.
A better image to paint would be a child taking his sweet time eating the slice of cake, enjoying every bite, savoring its goodness, not worried about anything at all because he knows there’s plenty of it left where it came from and that once he’s done, he can have more anytime he wishes to ask for it.
Now, ain’t that a much more pleasant vision to behold and dwell on?
Whether things are going good or things are going bad, our attitude, which is always contingent upon the condition of our heart, is what will make the good times – or the bad times – last for a long, long time.
In every circumstance, always keep a heart that’s grateful to God and trusts that He is always in control. That’s what makes all the difference! Whether circumstances are UP or DOWN, always believe that “surely goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life” (Psalm 23:6) if you just trust in the goodness of God.
These are NOT JUST WORDS that I am saying now. Believe me, I am saying this because I know this to be true. My own “roller coaster” of life, over the past couple of years, has taken one of the wildest, deepest plunges I have ever experienced that the quote above almost became my mantra. However, like I said earlier, after meditating on it, I realized that the statement isn’t entirely true and shouldn’t have to be.
All good things come from the Lord, so says the Bible. So if things are going good, praise and thank the Lord who, in His goodness and grace, granted you the privilege to enjoy it. Don’t worry about it not lasting. There’s an abundance of it where it came from, more than you could ever imagine or even hope for! Just make sure that you guard and keep your heart in check all the time.
"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." (Proverbs 4:23)
